Jako News—3 May 2022

We hope last Thursday you were able to tune in to conversations with Dr. Anderson Reynolds in which he conversed with Embert Charles (Chairperson of the Folk Research Center (FRC) and author of The Reign of Terra: The Mighty Terra and the Modern Calypso Movement in St. Lucia) on the history and role of Calypso in St. Lucian and Caribbean societies. Dr. Reynolds said that of all the episodes, this was the one he learned the most from. For a replay of this and all previous episodes of the show, please visit Conversations.

And don’t forget to tune in this Thursday for the 9thEpisode of Conversations, in which Dr. Reynolds will converse with Samuel Bowers on new forms of social organizations for community wealth creation and how St. Lucians of all works of life can be enabled to acquire decent homes. Mr. Bowers is a former deputy chairperson of the National Housing Corporation (NHC), founder of Caribbean Strategies Network, and author of Talking Truth to St. Lucian Power: Commentaries on Saint Lucian Politics and Society.

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and to commemorate this special day, Dr. Reynolds will host a book signing this Friday, 6 May, at the JQ Rodney Bay Mall, from 9 AM to 5 PM. Dr. Reynolds’ books would make excellent Mother’s Day gifts. Whether your mom likes fiction or nonfiction, novels or memoirs, history or politics, she will find one or more of Dr. Reynolds’ books that suit her fancy.

In other Jako Productions news, we are pleased to announce that, in response to popular demand, Jako Books is now preparing to re-publish a revised edition of the award-winning novel, The Brown Curtains by Clive Sankardayal, who is now hard at work writing a sequel and who is exploring turning The Brown Curtains into a movie.

Also, the debut novel, Shantaye’s World, by award-winning film producer, Mathurine Emmanuel, is now available for purchase on Amazon. The movie upon which the book is based received its very first screening on Easter Day at a red carpet gala event at Caribbean Cinemas in Castries, St. Lucia. But it will be awhile before the movie can be on the market for public consumption because according to Ms. Emmanuel the movie will be making the rounds at international film festivals (with the possibility of winning awards) before opening at cinemas and being available for purchase at various outlets/platforms.
