Clive Sankardayal was born and raised in Guyana. He is a retired career secondary school teacher and administrator and holds a B.A. degree in English from the University of Guyana. In his role as educator, Sankardayal also served as an Examiner with the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) for the English language.

His poem, Caribbean Man in Search of an Author, won the 1993 Caribbean Union of Teachers Poetry Competition, and his novel, The Brown Curtains was the 2005 winner of the St. Lucia National Arts Award for prose, and was Short Listed for the 2006 Guyana Prize for Literature.

Sankardayal and his wife now reside in St. Lucia and Canada.
