THE POLITICS OF ST. LUCIA from George FL Charles to Philip J Pierre and IMPLICATIONS FOR FREEDOM

Jako Productions is pleased to invite the public to attend the 2023 St. Lucia Emancipation Lecture by Dr. Anderson Reynolds, titled The Politics of St. Lucia from George FL Charles to Phillip J Pierre, Implications for Freedom.

The lecture, to be held at 6:30 PM Thursday 27 July 2023 at the IAU Building, Beanefield, Vieux Fort, will trace the history of St. Lucian Politics from George FL Charles, St. Lucia’s first head of government since universal suffrage to Philip J Pierre the nation’s current prime minister and latest head of government. In so doing, Dr. Reynolds will assess the extent to which each national political leader moved forward the political autonomy and economic empowerment pendulum, and the extent to which they governed or attempted to govern the country to serve the best interest of the majority of its inhabitants.

Besides the lecture, Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire will be providing introduction/motivation remarks, Dr. Jolien Harmsen will provide closing comments, and Nintus Magre and Avot Sevis will be serenading the evening.

Anderson Reynolds was born and raised in Vieux Fort, St. Lucia, where he now resides. He holds a Ph.D. in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida. Besides They Called Him Brother George, the political treatise No Man’s Land, and the memoir, My Father Is No Longer There, he is the author of three award-winning and national best-selling books, namely the novels The Stall Keeper and Death by Fire and the creative nonfiction The Struggle For Survival: an historical, political, and socioeconomic perspective of St. Lucia. Dr. Reynolds’ books, blogs, and newspaper and magazine articles have established him as one of St. Lucia’s leading public intellectuals and a foremost authority on its socioeconomic history.

As part of emancipation celebrations, Dr. Reynolds will also conduct a special all-day book signing ( 9AM to 6PM) on Saturday 29 August 2023 at Massy Mega at Choc Bay, Castries, next to Caribbean Cinema.  All of the author’s books will be on sale at $50.00, so all are welcome to meet the author and get autographed copies of his books including his latest, They Called Him Brother George

As he did in 2017/2018 with the publication of The Stall Keeper, starting next month Dr. Reynolds will be embarking on an international book tour of They Called Him Brother George with stops in several CARICOM countries and in several North American and United Kingdom cities.

The lecture is free and open to the public and all of Dr. Reynolds books will be on sale at EC$50.00. The books are also available on Amazon.com as both eBook and print, and in St. Lucia at various retail outlets.
